Kassouf, Gray take home weekly awards

Daniel Kassouf (Belmont Abbey) of the Silver Spring-Takoma T-Bolts has been named the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League Player of the Week for the week of June 15 to June 21. Kassouf finished the week on a six-game hitting streak and set a League record for homering in three straight games from June 17 to June 19. He also drove in three runs in each of those games and led the League with 10 RBI last week. The slugger doubled in each of his final two games of the week and scored a run in each of the final five. He also walked four times, and posted an OPS of 1.160.

Thomas Gray (Armstrong Atlantic) of the Alexandria Aces has been named the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 15 to June 21. Gray pitched a gem against the Maryland Redbirds on Sunday night, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out nine batters en route to a nine-inning shutout.
Gray retired 23 of the first 25 batters he faced in that game and didn't surrender the walk until the eighth inning. After a two out single in the first inning, Gray retired the next 18 batters consecutively, and he finished the game by striking out the final two batters. Gray also pitched a perfect ninth inning against the Rockville Express on June 16, recording one strikeout. Opponents hit just .091 against Gray last week.
