Stienstra, Supple win weekly awards
Danny Stienstra (San Jose State) of the Bethesda Big Train has been named the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League Player of the Week for the week of July 6 to July 12. Stienstra hit in all seven of the Big Train's games last week, starting with a four-hit performance against the Silver Spring-Takoma T-Bolts on July 6 in which he doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice. The versatile infielder drove in runs in six of his seven games played and scored in all but two. He added another four-hit night against Youse's Orioles on July 10, doubling in that game as well, and followed it up with a three hits and a double against the College Park Bombers the next day. Overall, Stienstra went 16-for-30 with eight RBI and eight runs scored, three doubles, four walks, and a stolen base. He did not strike out at all last week. Stienstra is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak, the longest of the season by a member of the Big Train.

Joe Supple (Santa Clara) of the Rockville Express has been named the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 6 to July 12. Supple tossed a no-hitter against the Maryland Redbirds on July 10, the second nine-inning no-hitter in League history. He allowed one run on five scattered walks and struck out eight batters to win, 2-1, and lower his team-leading ERA to 2.84. Supple is 2-2 on the season and has gone the distance in games twice.
