Winn, Cudney, and Beck win weekly awards

Connor Winn (Georgia Tech) of Youse's Orioles has been named the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League Co-Player of the Week for the week of July 20 to July 27. Winn reached base in all six of the Orioles' games over the final week of the regular season. He went 7-for-14 overall with a home run and five RBI. Winn scored a run in four of the six games and also walked five times without striking out. He went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored against the Silver Spring-Takoma T-Bolts on July 22 and homered against the College Park Bombers on July 26. Winn also stole three bases in three attempts for the week.

Nate Cudney (Belmont Abbey) of the Silver Spring-Takoma T-Bolts has been named the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League Co-Player of the Week for the week of July 20 to July 27. Cudney carried the T-Bolts into the playoffs with an outburst of four RBI over his final two at-bats of Monday's regular season finale against the Alexandria Aces. With the bases loaded in the eighth inning, Cudney singled home the game-tying runs. Up one run in the ninth, he sealed the deal with a two-run double. Prior to those at-bats, Cudney had also singled, walked, and scored two other runs. To sweeten the moment, the lefthander pitched the final 1.1 innings in shutout fashion to get the victory. The win, combined with a Bombers loss later that night, gave the T-Bolts the fourth and final playoff berth in the 2009 League Championship Series.

Also considered: Danny Stienstra (Big Train/San Jose State), Kevin Jones (Bombers/La Salle), Pat Blair (Orioles/Wake Forest), Jarrod Parks (Big Train/Mississippi State), Sean Buckley (Orioles/South Florida), Dan Schafferman (Orioles/George Mason), and Frank Florio (Redbirds/Stetson).

Sander Beck (Maryland) of Youse's Orioles has been named the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 20 to July 27. Beck won both of his starts last week to finish 6-1 this season. Beck pitched seven shutout innings against the T-Bolts on July 20, scattering three hits and three walks while striking out three in a 4-2 win. He followed that up with 5.2 innings against the Bombers on July 26 -- his final start of the season. Beck allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits in that game and struck out four. He did not walk a batter. Beck dropped his team-leading ERA to 1.56 with his last two starts and kept opposing hitters under the Mendoza-line for the season (.192).
