Aces Full: Alexandria sweeps first weekly awards

Catcher Will Davis (Pennsylvania/Atlanta, Ga.) and outfielder Rand Ravnaas (Georgetown/Fort Worth, Texas) shared Player-of-the-Week honors in the Cal Ripken League for the extended first week of June 4 to June 13. Davis hit in six of his team's eight games, going 14-for-29 (.483) with three doubles, a triple, a home run, six runs scored and seven batted in (the most RBI in the League last week). Davis also walked six times to six strikeouts. The lefty swinging catcher started the year with back-to-back two-hit games, doubling once in each, and he later added a three-hit game on June 7 and a four-hit game on June 11. He is currently riding a three-game hitting streak and has gone 8-for-13 with two doubles over that stretch.
Ravnaas began the season on a five-game hitting streak, going 11-for-22 over that stretch. He finished the week 12-for-32 (.375) with three doubles, two triples (most in the League), two home runs (most in the League), five runs batted in, and seven runs scored. Ravnaas walked twice and struck out ten times last week. The lefty swinging outfielder posted four straight multi-hit games from June 5 to June 10, including a four-hit effort against the Braves on June 9.

Lefthander Max Knowles (NC Wesleyan/Clinton, N.C.) earned Pitcher-of-the-Week honors in the Cal Ripken League for the extended first week of 2010. Knowles won both of his starts, following up a seven-inning victory on Opening Night with a nine-inning shutout on June 9. Knowles allowed three runs on five hits and three walks and struck out three batters in the opener. He scattered just three hits and three walks while striking out six against the Braves on June 9 for his first shutout (and complete game) of the season. Opponents hit just .154 off of him and his earned run average sits at 1.69.
