Mitchell, Derner grab second weekly awards
Rockville Express first baseman Tony Mitchell (Florida Southern/Queenstown, Md.) has been named the Player of the Week in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League for the week of June 14 through June 20. Mitchell hit in all five games for the Express from June 14 to June 20, going 8-for-16 (.500) in that stretch. The first baseman began the week with a three-hit game against the Herndon Braves on June 14, driving in a run and scoring another in that game. Mitchell finished the week by doubling in three straight games. He drove in six runs for the week, including three in one game against the Bethesda Big Train on June 20. Mitchell also walked twice and scored two runs.

Alexandria Aces lefthander Brian Derner (George Washington/Burke, Va.) has been named the Pitcher of the Week in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League for the week of June 14 through June 20. Derner did not allow a run over seven innings in his start on June 18, a 9-0 win over the Express. The lefty allowed just a pair of hits and a pair of walks while striking out seven. After a double to lead off the game, Derner retired 19 of the next 20 batters he faced, including 12 in a row from the third to seventh innings. The seven strikeouts were a season-high for Derner.
