Bethesda Big Train first baseman Austin Harclerode (Towson/Ellicott City, Md.) has been named the Player of the Week in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League for the week of June 28 to July 4. Harclerode hit in five straight games and six of seven from June 28 to July 3. He went 9-of-23 (.391) overall, collecting two doubles and a home run along the way. Harclerode drove in six runs, including five over three games to close out the week. He also scored eight runs, including three in one game against the Nationals on July 3. The first baseman walked five times and struck out just three, and was successful in his only stolen-base attempt. Harclerode posted an OPS of 1.109 for the week.

Redbirds starter Tim Cooney (Wake Forest/Collegeville, Pa.) has been named the Pitcher-of-the-Week in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League for the week of June 28 through July 4. Cooney won his only start, against the Alexandria Aces on July 1. The lefty tossed six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out eight batters to get his second win of the season. The start was the second in a row in which Cooney went six innings without allowing a run. In his prior start, a 2-0 win over Youse’s Orioles, he did not allow a hit either. The strong run has lowered Cooney’s ERA to 2.70 over five starts this season. He has 27 strikeouts to just six walks in 2010.
