A Whole New Ballgame …
Right Near Home
Maryland baseball fans had a real treat in 2005 as six teams of college stars began play in a brand new wooden-bat league, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League. Thousands of fans from Baltimore to Bethesda and Rockville to College Park experienced summer nights of family fun with baseball at its most genuine at ballparks right near home.
We are very pleased and proud to be able to honor Cal Ripken, Sr., one of the nation’s and state of Maryland’s most admired baseball coaches.
We are building a strong community-based league that will help increase interest in baseball at the grassroots level. Our Bethesda team raises $50,000 each year to improve local baseball and softball fields. Several of our teams run camps to instruct young ballplayers and expose them to role model college players.
The baseball in the Cal Senior league is first-rate with players coming to Maryland from all over the country. Big leaguers like Mark Teixeira (Texas Rangers), John Maine (Baltimore Orioles), and Gavin Floyd (Philadelphia Phillies) have played for wooden bat summer teams in Maryland in recent years prior to signing professional contracts.
We hope you will join us in the 2006 season to watch these college stars and future pros play in community ballparks near your home.
