Gutierrez continued his rapid ascent up the professional ranks in 2010, as he finished the season at Class-AAA Rochester, where he made two relief appearances. He spent the bulk of the season with the New Britain Rock Cats of the Class-AA Eastern League, where he went 5-8, 4.57 with two saves in 16 relief appearances and 16 starts. He tossed 122 innings, striking out 81 batters and allowing 50 walks. Gutierrez allowed 71 runs (62 earned) on 136 hits, including seven home runs. With Rochester, Gutierrez threw four total innings, allowing a run on five hits and two walks. He struck out six.
Gutierrez pitched well for the Fort Myers Miracle of the Florida State League in 2009, going 2-3, 1.32 in 11 games (10 starts) before earning a promotion to the New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League. He struggled there in 22 games (six starts), going 1-3, 6.19. Gutierrez struck out a combined 65 batters in 107 innings. He allowed 56 runs on 99 hits and 46 walks. While opponents hit just .192 off of him in Florida, they batted an even .300 off of him at the Double-A level. At the end of the season, Baseball America rated Gutierrez as the No. 11 prospect in the Florida State League.
The highest-ever drafted Cal Ripken, Sr. League alumni, Gutierrez began his professional career in 2008 with the Fort Myers Miracle of the Class-A Florida State League. In 16 relief appearances, Gutierrez went 3-1, 2.10 with one save and 19 strikeouts in 25.2 innings. He scattered 23 hits and seven walks and held opponents to a .240 batting average while not allowing a home run. Baseball America rated Gutierrez the No. 7 prospect in the Twins organization.
