Brooks moved up to the Arkansas Travelers of the Texas League after stints with the Salt Lake Bees of the Pacific Coast League and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of the California League. He collected 13 hits, including a double, in 83 at-bats for the Travelers. On the year, Brooks hit ten doubles and three home runs, drove in 22 runs and scored 30. He walked 36 times with 103 strikeouts.

Brooks collected 80 hits in 97 games for the Cedar Rapids Kernals of the Midwest League in 2009. He hit 17 doubles, three triples, and five home runs, and drove in 47 runs while scoring 63. He walked 67 times to 86 strikeouts, and was successful on five of six stolen base attempts.

Brooks began 2008 with the AZL Angels of the Arizona League before being reassigned to the Orem Owlz of the Pioneer League. He collected 18 hits in 118 at-bats, with five doubles and two home runs. Brooks knocked in 14 runs and scored 14. He walked 19 times. For the AZL Angels, Brooks went 4-for-22 with a triple, three RBI, and four runs scored.
