BA: Cecil (T-Bolts '05) is a mid-season ''on the rise'' prospect

July 28 - August 10, 2008; p.16

Lefthanded pitcher Brett Cecil (Maryland/Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts 2005), drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the first supplemental round in 2007, was included on a list of ''on the rise'' prospects in Baseball America's Mid-Season Prospect report. ''By definition this group is disparate, a group of all kinds of players who weren't in the Top 100 coming into the season but are strong contenders right now.''

Cecil made four starts at Class-A Dunedin this season before earning a promotion to Class-AA New Hampshire. There, Cecil went 6-2, 2.55 in 18 starts with 87 strikeouts and just 23 walks in 77.2 innings. Cecil has since been promoted to Class-AAA Syracuse, where he has struggled in two starts but has still managed to strike out 10 batters in 7.1 innings.

Baseball America named Cecil the top prospect in the New York-Penn League and the lefthander earned Short-Season Classification All-Star honors in 2007.
