Though the Red Sox have now signed five players in the first three rounds for a total of $5.2 million, including above-slot deals for Casey Kelly and second-round shortstop Derrik Gibson ($600,000), they may just be getting started. As usual, Boston drafted several highly touted high school players with large price tags and is spending the summer monitoring them... To better evaluate their draftees, Boston invited them to a Fenway Park workout in early July. Nearly two dozen players faced off, with each pitcher working two innings and each position player getting six or seven plate appearances. Gibson helped his cause by going 5-for-6 with a walk and six stolen bases.
