Waldorf, Md. --- Southern Maryland Nationals founders Chuck Winegardner and Donnie Herbert announce the hiring of Adam Gladstone to their coaching staff effective July 3, 2010.
Adam is a seasoned baseball professional with an outstanding wealth of knowledge on and off the field. In 1995 he graduated from Jim Evans Academy of Professional Umpiring. He then went on to umpire in the Frontier League, Texas-Louisiana League, and Atlantic League.
In 2000 Adam was hired as the Director of Baseball Operations for the Aberdeen Arsenal. Shortly after that, he was named Director of Minor League Operations for Ripken Baseball until 2002.
In 2007 he joined Baseball and Sports Associates and managed baseball operations for the Bridgeport Bluefish, Camden Riversharks, Lancaster Barnstormers and York Revolution. Adam was eventually named Director of Baseball Operations for the York Revolution for the 2008-2009 seasons. To read more about him, click here.
''Adam brings several elements to the field,'' says Chuck Winegardner. ''My goal is to give each and every player an opportunity to grow and learn more about the next level of baseball. I believe that Adam can play a vital roll helping us to achieve this goal. Returning players back to their respective colleges with great attitudes and additional knowledge and skills is high on our list. Adam Gladstone is a welcome addition to our club.''
Donnie Herbert adds: ''Adam is someone who truly loves the game and will be great for player development and the future of our organization. He is well known and respected throughout the professional baseball community. I have listened to Adam and Chris Hoiles for hours and hours on Fox Sports Talk Radio 1370 AM (Bird Talk) and they really have an intelligent way of breaking down the game. We are very fortunate to have Adam Gladstone join us and we are looking forward to a long relationship in continuing to build one of the strongest, most attractive organizations in the country for summer collegiate baseball.''
