Ripken League helps Feed the Hungry

The Rockville Express won the First Annual Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League's Feed the Hungry Challenge collecting 1,658 pounds of food for the Manna Food Center. The Bethesda Big Train collected 1,166 pounds and the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts collected 802 pounds. Each team collected at two Giant Food stores on Saturday June 12. The grand total collected at the six stores by the three teams of college baseball players was 3,626 pounds. The Cal Ripken League features eight summer teams made up of top college baseball players from around the country playing wooden bat baseball in June and July. Each food donor received a free Family Pass to a Ripken League game this Summer. In addition to the Ripken League, Giant Food, and Manna Food Center, additional project partners included Text Design, Print One, and The Gazette.
