Buchholz (O's '07) leads impressive list of alumni for pre-season national honors
Nine alumni included on 2008 Brooks Wallace Award Pre-Season Watch List

Alex Buchholz (Delaware/Youse's Maryland Orioles 2007) has been named a Pre-Season Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American by Collegiate Baseball magazine. Buchholz hit .387 with 27 doubles, six triples, and eleven home runs for the Delaware Blue Hens in 2007. He drove in 63 runs and scored 46. Last summer, the junior infielder made the 2007 Cal Ripken, Sr. League All-Star Team after batting .270 with 31 hits for Dean Albany's Orioles. Buchholz drove in 21 runs and scored 27. He hit six doubles, two triples, and a home run. He also stole nine bases in ten attempts.
Buchholz was also named to the Ping! Baseball Pre-Season All-America First Team as a utility player and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Pre-Season All-America Third Team for 2008. He is also listed on the 2008 Brooks Wallace Award Pre-Season Watch List. The Wallace Award is given annually to the nation's top collegiate player.
Scott Krieger (George Mason/Youse's Maryland Orioles 2006) was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-America Third Team and the Ping! Baseball Pre-Season All-America Third Team as a designated hitter for 2008. The junior hit .365 in 54 games for the George Mason Patriots in 2007. He collected 12 doubles, two triples, and 20 home runs, while driving in 68 runs and scoring 59. He also stole six bases. Krieger made the 2006 Cal Ripken, Sr. League All-Star Team after batting .250 with 27 hits for the Orioles that season. He hit seven doubles and two triples and knocked in eleven runs. He was successful in eight of nine steal attempts and scored twelve runs. Krieger was also named to the 2008 Brooks Wallace Award Pre-Season Watch List.
Clay Whittemore (Jacksonville State/Bethesda Big Train 2007) was named to the Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I Pre-Season All-America Third Team and the Ping! Baseball Pre-Season All-America Third Team as an outfielder for 2008. Whittemore batted .391 with 93 hits for the Jacksonville State Gamecocks in 2007. He collected 20 doubles and three home runs, and drove in 69 runs while scoring 53. He also stole six bases. For the Big Train in 2007, Whittemore hit .290 with a team-best nine doubles. He drove in 19 runs and scored 19 of his own. Whittemore was also named to the 2008 Brooks Wallace Award Pre-Season Watch List.
Mitch Harris (Navy/Youse's Maryland Orioles 2006) was named to the Ping! Baseball Pre-Season All-America Third Team as a utility player for 2008. The senior batted .293 with 51 hits, including ten doubles, four triples, and eight home runs for Navy in 2007. He drove in 47 runs and scored 36. On the mound, Harris went 8-5 with a 2.14 ERA in 14 starts (88.1 innings-pitched). He tossed four complete games, including one shutout, and struck out 119 batters. Harris went 1-3 with a 4.68 ERA for the Orioles in 2006. He went the distance twice in five starts and struck out 26 batters in 25 innings-pitched. Harris was also named to the 2008 Brooks Wallace Award Pre-Season Watch List.
Michael Gilmartin (Wofford/Rockville Express 2006) earned For Your Consideration honors for the 2008 Ping! Baseball Pre-Season All-America Team as a utility player. Gilmartin batted .322 with 12 doubles, 14 home runs, and 50 RBI for Wofford in 2007. On the mound, he went 1-3 with a 4.11 ERA in 21 relief appearances. He struck out 19 batters in 35 innings-pitched for Wofford. Gilmartin batted .309 with 34 hits, including three doubles, three triples, and a home run for the Express in 2006. The 2006 Cal Ripken, Sr. League All-Star drove in 13 runs and scored 12, slugged at a .418 clip, and posted a .415 on-base percentage.
